Typically when I make chili, I use canned kidney beans, canned diced tomatoes, fresh hamburger, cumin, chili powder and onions, usually topped with shredded cheese and/or sour cream.
Tonight I went a bit different. Started with what is supposedly, already complete chili – Dennison’s Original Chili Con Carne. After fixing my own, I was torn between that and just the easy canned chili. Instead I combined the two ideas and used the canned chili in place of the kidney beans and hamburger and did everything else the same. Chopped up some onion, started cooking that, added the canned chili, added ground cumin to taste, less than a teaspoon full of cayenne chili powder — probably closer to 1/4 than 1/2, and then a can of diced tomatoes. I want the flavors to slow cook so I added about a 1/3 cup of water and let it cook on low uncovered until the consistency was what I wanted.
That’s it. Cooks up quicker than my normal, and it tastes pretty good.
